How long may an article be?

Yeah, I know it sounds weird, but here goes. I have pet project were I write an article about rolling your own assembler, disassembler and linker while providing the reader with the complete programs.

The idea is then to publish the article here on the site. While I'm far from done, I estimate the article atleast 70+ pages. I think that may be a bit over the top? This article is also very long (interesting article btw), but nearly all of it is in a downloadable pdf while the part on the site is just an introduction to the content. This is by far the easiest solution since I don't have to translate the article from LaTeX to html.

Another way out of it would be to create an article for each chapter and provide a link for a pdf containing the full article.

Basically what would you as a reader prefer?

There is actually an Article Writing forum where it would be more appropriate to ask this. http://www.codeproject.com/Forums/1641/Article-Writing.aspx[^]

However, I would suggest breaking it out into sections and maybe ending up with 7-10 articles. Part 1, Part 2, etc. I doubt 70 pages is going to go over too well.

I completely disagree. I think the whole idea of the size-related criteria should be different. Please see Solution 2.

Any specific recommendations on the length of the article would be totally pointless. There are no formal limitations on the article size. As to the preferred size, I think that the most important criterion is: it should be interesting enough for the person interested in the article topic, interesting enough to read the whole article.
