First off, let me say I have NO idea if this is the correct place to be asking this type of question. That being said,

I am a graphic design student in my graduating year. Recently, I stumbled across a website called "Phase" (https://www.eliashanzer.com/phase/) in which a variable typeface reacts to voice. Upon more research, I found another example like this https://www.instagram.com/p/BeVfpFZAueE/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
web version: http://wenzeldaniel.com/websites/gintogx/index

I am working on a class project and would love to do something similar with a variable typeface. I have some basic HTML/CSS knowledge. However, I am assuming that Java is playing a large role in this.

I was hoping one of you may be able to use your expertise with variable fonts to help me and/or give me a direction on where I can find out more about doing something to the same effect.

Thanks in advance!

What I have tried:

Java, Javascript, typography, design
