I'm trying to find a very large image editor, that is a simple program for tweaking very large 1Gb+ size files.

Why I'm looking: I am working on a height map for a game which i eventually want to decompose into a 3D polynomial (to compress the model size =) ), so what i really want is a nice image editor for bulk data manipulations..

I know I could use something like Matlab/Mathmatica.. etc, however I would really prefer to do the manipulations graphically rather then by tweaking data points on a 3D data field...

does anybody have a solution for me...

I'm just curious: if you cannot edit such a bit file, where did you get it?
Editing of such file is quite possible; the editor should keep data in file and present smaller fraction of data for edition on screen, one at a time, but I don't know read-to-use editor to do it. Probably because I never had such a big one.

Well I created a rough draft programatically. However there are a number of applications one could use, however they suck up memory and become unstable if I try to use their editor functionality...

Photoshop will do it, simply by tiling your image and keeping either a smaller version, or a larger version of just the bit you can see, in memory.
