Try doing it as you would when you have data, just skip the binding, or bind it to an empty DataTable ...

For database handling try looking at:

or Displaying Data With the ObjectDataSource[^]

I've found that using ObjectDataSource is an excellent way to cater to SoC[^], while still maintaining a fair level of integration with the ASP.Net binding mechanisms
