ccna three level hiecharcy

Hi,I was reading about the features of the three layer hiecharcy, core,distribution, and access. I noticed that it says certain features such as link aggregation and redundancy are included at certain layers. I was wondering what it meant by this,because if there are three layers and say redundancy is a feature at the distriubtion layer does this mean there are many connections to the core layer or to the access layer?
