I know there is quite a bit of information about touch pad/tablet app development on CodeProject but where to begin, and finding the best sources can take awhile.

I’ve been a application developer for over 25 years starting with C, then C++/MFC, then C#/.net . Developing mainly desktop applications, having never done any web or mobile development, nor do I even own a mobile device other than a Blackberry that I use mainly for phone/email. I now find myself in a position needing to fast track my learning on this topic, and know little to nothing about it and humble enough to admit it. Yes, I’ve had my head buried in desktop development for way too long.

I have an older C++/MFC app that I’ve been getting significant requests, from customers, to convert/re-write to run on IPad, Android, etc. and I’m now starting to research how best to proceed. With Windows 8 on the horizon, I want to be ready.

My question, besides where to start is what to use/how to design, to get the most bang for the buck as well as time, and make porting as easy as possible to multiple devices. Maybe I’m naive to say this but, I don’t see it as a smart phone app but IPad, Android, Win 7 tablets and certainly Windows 8 will be targets. Can anyone give me any advice as to where to start. Articles, books, classroom or online training, etc.

Thanks and Much appreciated,

Hi, this question interests me too and I notice you posted yesterday and nobody has replied yet. Someone may still offer some advice but I wondered if you have no replies in a few more days, it might be worth asking in the Mobile Forum? Just an idea. I'll will keep an eye out in case you do get some answers. Best of Luck.

Good question!

1.) For Android application development(both phones and tablets), the best resource is the developer site itself: Android Developers
You will find all the tools, resources and training on this site.

2.) Next, for Windows Phone development, there are many sites:
- The SDK and resources can be found here : App Hub
- WindowsPhoneGeek

Well, then there is CodeProject itself, where you can find many articles on application development!!!

Wish you all the best.
