I am looking for a method to obtain a total number LODD (Line of Duty Deaths) that are listed on the USFA website:
http://apps.usfa.fema.gov/...[^]
All I am looking for is a total for the calendar year 2012 so i can place that data on my website: http//showmefools.org
Any and all suggestions are welcome I'm stumped.

After reading a few more articles I think php might work I would need to access the above listed external web page and count the number of entries for the calendar year 2012.
I have no clue as to how to do this.
I volunteered to do the web site http://showmefools.org I am learning as I go and the going is kinda slow.

I don't know other users, but I am not going to click or go to a link I can not see where it brings. So if I were you, I would use the "improve question" and exchange the goo.gl/7zJVB with the full link.

I saw you edited the link. Thanks. If the problem was the length, you might cut it (as I have done for you) when posting it. But the [^] give us the possibility to see where it goes before clicking. When you post a link the part in the center between the "> and the is just the text shown in blue. You can now click on "improve question" to see what I mean.

What do you plan on using, like what language? I have written many scrappers in a few languages. If you provide what you have tried or what you are stuck on, I'd be happy to try to help.

I am thinking javascript would work, it has to be something that I can plug into my web site: showmefools.org
As long as I can plug it into wordpress without a hassle.

If you look at the FEMA-USFA page on the right side just above the list of the LODD's there is a line "Your search returned 30 fatality notices." That is what I want but have no idea how to write the script to obtain it.

I don't have much experience doing this in PHP/Javascript unfortunately, most of the time I write a script or stand alone app to do it.

I have seen the results on other sites I am just not sure how to go about it.
