i am new to programming.
i am using visual basic 2005 & sql 2005
i would like to know whether messaging is possible in it.
you should be able to send message to a selected person. and should be able to view his previous messages + inbox (same as mail)
messaging inside an organization. can anybody help

What you mean: messaging + inbox (same as mail)? How do you want to achieve that?
Is this really VB question? In my opinion it's VB.NET question + SQL

Yes, you can do it. But it's not a job for a complete beginner!
It's not too complex - it's just a variation of a chat program, but it does need some thinking about.
Google for VB Chat application[^] and you will find loads of examples.

I agree with OriginalGriff, but just in case that you're actually considering messaging via SQL Server, it can be done in numerous ways.

One quick and dirty way is to have a table in the database where the messages are stored and then have an application which is polling the contents of the table regularly (but not too often).

Using SqlDependency[^] may also be feasible in some scenarios.
