Fingerprint scanner integration

Please can someone help me with a way to add the ftrscanApi.dll file to my application, i'm trying to use a futronic fs80 fingerprint scanner. i've been trying to add it through reference but i've been getting some error message that the file can't be added. please i'm really stock here. Or i can use any other help on how to go about the fingerprint scanner integration. thanks a lot.
