a database column selection feature in windows application.

In the whole System.Windows.Forms library, there is no such concept as the column selection. There are only the selection modes allowing to select some cell, set of cells, entire rows or set of rows. Even if you can select some cells of the same column, this is not selection of column.

I'm afraid to say, you will have to design you UI not relying on such feature as column selection.

Your other chance could be creation of some control from scratch, based on, say, Panel, or Control as a base class...
