Can you use computer without any os?

do you then need to write programs that you want to use? and should the program be written in the machine language?

What I have tried:

Over the net, it says it's possible, but doesn't say which environment do you have to write the programs and run them.

You can write a self booting program, but it requires detailed knowledge of the hardware including memory addresses, interrupts etc.

Yes it's possible, quoting WikiPedia:
Quote:
In modern PCs the BIOS is stored in rewritable EEPROM or NOR flash memory, allowing the contents to be replaced and modified. This rewriting of the contents is sometimes termed flashing.
And this probably means using Assembler or a low-level language like C.
