Can you use computer without any os?

do you then need to write programs that you want to use? and should the program be written in the machine language?

What I have tried:

Over the net, it says it's possible, but doesn't say which environment do you have to write the programs and run them.

You can write a self booting program, but it requires detailed knowledge of the hardware including memory addresses, interrupts etc.

Yes it's possible, quoting WikiPedia:

And this probably means using Assembler or a low-level language like C.
