how i can get the contents of an xml file from a url and display the contents in a nice format in javascript

Try to return as JSON format.You can easily manipulate the JSon data than XML using javascript.

This page from w3schools tells you exactly that - XML Parser[^].

Use may also use jQuery.get()[^] to get the xml from any url and then parse it, jQuery has quite a helpful methods to do such things very easily.
