I'm currently using the Windows Media Player control to stream music which allows the client to use the application even if WMP isn't installed on the machine simply by including a dll in the folder. However I'm currently experimenting with Real Player in and am having a problem when trying to run the program on a clients machine which doesn't have Real Player installed even though I've included all the referenced Dll's. Any help guys?

P.S. Works fine if Real Player is installed

Bad idea, really. Better use VLC.

Can that be executed without being installed on the client machine?

It depends on what do you mean installation. What is your application type? Do you need to have a Web application? If so, what do you have on server side? What are the scenarios?
Whatever you do, a computer playing media always uses some software for this purpose, as there is no such thing as miracle. If you want to create and deploy your own code, you can embed VideoLAN, so it won't be installed, but the client will need your application. If you want to stream media from the Web, you can have VideoLAN only on server side, a client does not have to have anything special except pretty much standard system. And so on...
If you tell me some detail, maybe I know the answer... or you can figure it out by yourself...

The application is a local exe complied within I'm having alot of problems with the VLC plugin, I can't seem to get the total time, current position working properly

OK, than this is all you need, and you don't need to install a component. Hope you will sort out the time/position issues, as the player works properly (however, check it up with the read-to-use players: sometimes, the record itself can be incorrect (inconsistent metadata), so some players/libraries copes with the problem, some not).

For a reasonable alternative, please see my recent answer.

Streaming music files in without WMP[^].

I should add that this is not just a player. Open-source VideoLAN is the one universal solution which can be used for media streaming, transcoding, downloading, with filtering on the fly, and a lot more.

You should also keep in mind that RealNetwork came up with pretty bad and totally proprietary solutions, including their own proprietary RealMedia formats which always caused compatibility problem. We really need open-source solutions.
