How to differentiate whether the screen touched single time or more

here actually in my application i am trying add a effect ie when we touches the screen once it should mark with a color and if double touched id we have mark with a different color.To Achieve this i decided to use timer suppose if the user touches the screen twice with in a mean time then mymethod has to call if not another has to call. can anyone help me here
