My experience with Apache Server makes me think it's not unlikely installation will go smoothly but, for whatever reason, during the port assignment stage, a user will pick some other designation NOT "80". Because it's easy to do and they think "well, 80's been assigned before". And that's where the difficulty arises. I found it absolutely impossible to change the port number you assign the first time. So just go with that one. Or uninstall and reinstall and see if that works.

Just learn Apache configuration, which is in its standard documentation. This is how a port is setup (80 is standard for HTTP): http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/examples.html[^].

What makes your thinking that your server is not configured to serve on port 80?

[EDIT]

By the way, anyone who needs to make any decision related to IP port numbers, any at all, should always consult the original document IANA regulating port assignments: http://www.iana.org/assignments/service-names-port-numbers/service-names-port-numbers.xhtml[^].
