how to categories the data in gridview

by a simple select query searching reuslt comes in gridview. i want to categories the search result on the basis of any particular column. How can i do this? do i need to write any special query or and GUI change reuqire in Gridview. m using winForm

if i understood it correctly you want to filter your data that comes in datagridview?

not want to filter suppose a table data comes in gridview which include a column name category which include books (history, literature , science)
i want to categories the data on that category basis .

Solution 2

No built in support for grouping in gridview.
with third party controls its possible, such as Infragistics control (ultragrid).
