I have a web application/ Website to run as intranet. It is developed in C# 3.0, mysql database. It will be a secure connection between the systems using VPN across the different states.
I am looking for some recommended hardware specification to host application.
Can any one please suggest on this.

1 solution

Well that totally depends on

1) What the application does
2) What the loading is (concurrent connections)
3) What the loading is (backend acitivity)
4) What is the data storage growth rate

What you can do is go to an ISP website, and look at the various server configurations they offer for virtual servers / dedicated servers and cloud based solutions, as they usually have comments like, ideal for personal web, small business small database, medium to large database etc.

That will give you an idea of various configurations.

However, the other thing to take into is cost to upgrade in the future. It maybe cheaper in the long run to buy bigger, and not have to upgrade in a year, than buy small and have to update regularly.

For a basic server solution, a dual core, 2-4gb ram, with however much hdd you want, will service you quite well.
