Personally I find this strange. I've been using Win 8 regularly on my home PC for a while now. After an initial "where the f**k is ...?" period while I attempted to find my way around, I quickly found myself at home with the new start screen arrangement.

On top of that, performance is significantly improved. Cakewalk (makers of the Sonar music software) tested various aspects of performance for audio software, for example, and found amongst other things drastically improved disk I/O performance, less kernel calls (with associated overheads of context switching).

We all stand to benefit from the optimisations made to get all this running on a tablet.
