HTML/javascript/css are a perfect example of a crappy lowest denominator driving out all the better solutions.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

There are already a lot of resources out there that compare the available options so just be sure to evaluate them all before deciding on the one that apparently looks like the easiest way.
