Posting code improvements to someones article

Hi all,

I've been a member for years, but I've never contributed to someone else's article, so I thought I would ask what the proper etiquette is :-)

If I've made pretty substantial improvements and changes to the main code in an article and have been asked for my changes by a few people in comments on that article, and the changes are too large to post in the comments, what is the proper way to make the changes available? Should I try to get the original author involved? Just email the people that asked? Make a new article?
