A decade ago, at Eden Gardens, India proved they were ready to challenge the world in Test cricket. They were invincible at home. They soon got the "bad travelers" tag out of their way and started to win abroad.
They, for a brief period, where no 1 in Test cricket. They almost made us believe in them. Things were all great.
Then it all ended. It had to. Losing abroad without a fight was one setback, but losing in India itself is the last straw.
During the last decade, India, Sri Lanka and Australia reigned cricket. The decline of the three was inevitable. England and South Africa have finally taken the top two spots.
The next few years is when India will have to build their team again. India is not going to win much in tests the next couple of years or so.
There are a few questions that the Indian fan has to answer as well. Will he wait for a few years? Or will he switch over to T20 and ODIs where India will still do better than in Test Cricket. There is hope that test cricket will survive in the world, thanks to wins by England. However, will it survive in India?
Just to add, When India cannot play good in India... forget about overseas. I hope now everyone understands the importance of Dravid & Laxman. Just not sure if Dhoni still understands this! Just throw Dhoni out of test team.
