A software chief of a Chinese bank reportedly found a loophole in his company’s system and managed to stealthily withdraw seven million yuan ($1.03 million USD) over the course of 14 months. When he was caught, he explained he was testing the system. Huaxia Bank bought it, but the authorities didn’t. And he would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for those meddling kids. I've been programming for nearly 40 years, and I cannot remember I time that I have ever encountered a fixed-width file.

You never read or wrote data from/to magnetic tapes? Fixed width records (very handy for COBOL) in fixed size blocks.

Last April, Microsoft open sourced the original File Manager that shipped with Windows 3.0, allowing users to make changes and if they want, compile it for use on Windows 10. Now, the firm is making it easier to run the legacy app, as it's offering the Windows 3.0 File Manager through the Microsoft Store as a UWP app. Because... Because... Nope, can't think of why.

OK, I'm sold. I'd rather suffer the file names than the effluent interface. It'll become the only UWP app on my machines (discounting the ones I can't uninstall).
Although where they get off labelling a win 3 app as UWP, I don't know.

Best known for its use in Go and Swift, C# proposal #1398 seeks to add defer statements. If you are not familiar with the concept, it can be summarized as a finally block appearing at the beginning of some code instead of the end. I could leave this feature for later
