If my thinking didn't fail me there is 25% probability ... that said, the way I see it, the problem can be reduced to a variation of picking the right color ball from the bag, with the "ball" being right color (1˝) cube side, therefore we have 96 colored balls cube sides and 384 all cube sides.
It depends on which of the 1-inch cubes you select.
8 will have 3 painted sides (1 in 2)
24 will have 2 painted sides (1 in 3)
24 will have 1 painted side (1 in 6)
8 will have no painted sides (0 chance of getting a painted side up)
Which cube is selected?

You have a 4” cube, and spray the outside with red paint. You cut this big red cube into individual 1” cubes (the freshly exposed faces do not have any red paint on them). All of these little cubes are placed into an urn, are thoroughly mixed, and one selected at random. This chosen cube is then rolled like a die. What is the probability that it lands with a red face up?
I know that if had the inclination to do this, my probability of getting laid would be 0.
16*6/16*4*6 = 1/4 number of painted faces (16 on each of 6 sides) / total number of faces (16 cubes per layer, 4 layers, and 6 sides per cube).
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius
Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. You like that? You go right on staring at it. I prefer looking at galaxies. -- Sarah Hoyt
I feel that the title of that article misrepresents the reality of what lead to the tragedy.
A more appropriate title would be: "A group of narcissistic women continue to take selfies in a stream that is fed to by floodgates, in spite of floodgate opening times being posted, warning signs, and SIRENS BLARING; they were washed away to death by the raging waters from the scheduled opening of floodgates".
Selfie with a closeup of raging floodwaters approaching in the background. Who wouldn't want that awesome one?! Umm, no.
