I had cause this morning to check the event logs on my webserver and was shocked to find thousands of failed login attempts for the user 'scan' and 'Administrator' neither of which are valid user names for that machine. I checked the incoming log on the router and found only two IP addresses that seemed unusual. Whois resolves them back to Chinese tech companies. My ISP will be getting a complaint.
Am I the only person wondering why communists would be interested in this guy's website?
My honest opinion is that we'd all do well to reverse the Chinese firewall so that none of their traffic can get out. If they cannot police their people then let's cut the whole country full of hackers/warez right off the internet. Ban the entire country.
1: I have a little benchmark I use to evaluate a site: If I view a site for 30 seconds and it triggers a seizure then the site is designed poorly. 2: There are little graphic symbols everywhere but no text. What's up with that?
digging through my site logs, i discovered that multiple Chinese IP addresses were each downloading every ZIP file on my site (mostly product binaries / installers) every 30 minutes. a little bit of .htaccess stopped them from being able to get to the files. but, they're still trying to get them, even after a month of 401s.
