Dear all Micro Kiosk Programmer,

I want to implement Motorola's Sybol Motorola MK 500/MK 590 device at my supermarket.
I saw this device during my Europe visit and purchase there 6 months before to test at my store.
now what i face issue is how to use this ? becoz when i unbox the pack i find a Symbol MK590 device only, no CD, No wire, no power cable ! i did google and get some info online how its works , etc...

but didn't find any manual or video how to use this at store....

1. in my store i have novel server and there i kept my dBase Data base / Advantage data base, which is connected by wifi and cable to my admin room for stock management, and point of sale / Cashier desk, all cashier have price check scanner and our software is build in xBASE ++, C builder.

2. my worry is do i able to connect this scanner simple as other scanner ? if yes what is the way ? if not how to use this ? i mean do i need spacial software for this MK590 device ? so user can scan and get the item price on this device screen ?

3. is that i can use my same database to get the item bar code scan in this device ?

4. Visual studio 2008 program need to connect this device ? or user can develop in VS 2008 and run on this device ?

or i need to instal my office pc Windows CE OS then VS 2008 then create a C# window base application and then run on MK 590 and connect with database to get the value / bar code scan then price display.

with many thanks

I guess you'll need to set up a Windows CE development environment as you describe - It's likely that the device supports the OPOS (COM base) /NPOS (.Net based) APIs.

I suggest you head over to the Symbol Site[^], they usually provide the required info, but you have to dig around a bit ...

Thank you, Simon!
Having worked with Symbol devices the packaging comes as a shock the first time, as you only get the device.

You have two options for these devices programming wise :
1) Visual C++
2) .net Compact Framework

I would recommend .net programming as it is much easier. Symbol has very good SDK tools for controlling every aspect of their devices so you should have no problem there.

Having said all that I would not recommend doing that yourself, as there are products available which you can use without a heavy investment in development time, effort and cost.

You will have to go to the symbol site and order the usb cables etc.
You get .net compact framework with visual studio by default (I think you need the pro version).
