you can make a batch file(.bat) and use <attrib> command with /s switch for current and all subfolders to set or unset files attribute.

"Microsoft File Server Resource Manager" should work fine for that purpose.
It's included in the "Windows Server Administration Toolpack" from version 2003 R2 and forwards.

I'm running windows server 2003 with Sp2 not R2, can I use this tool and where I could download it?

Try downloading the adminpak.exe[^] from microsofts homepage. It should be inside it.
Be aware that if you implement the quota system. It's not compatible with the NTFS Quota.

Hi, in windows xp we can use run as command to perform an administrative task while we logon as a normal user account. My question is: is it possible for us to change an IP address of the computer with secondary log on feature?
Thank in advance!!!

This short command example sets the IP of your "Local Area Connection"
netsh interface ip set address name="Local Area Connection" static 192.168.0.100 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1 1
I hope I didn't misunderstand to much.

Hi, I have manually specify IP address for my cleint running windows xp pro. But once I click ok button to close the property of network connection and go back to its property of an IP again, I found that the option of specify IP change to Obtain IP automatically.
But when I try to open the command prompt and run the command ipconfig /all, I found that the IP address is display as the one I specify before (static IP) but the interface of IP property show that its obtain IP automatically.
Does anyone know what is the cause of the probme? and how to solve it? Thank in advance!!!

How many interfaces did it show and did you change the IP on the correct one?

Yeah, right. You're not going to do this with just a batch file. You have to have some external utilities to do this. Oh, and if your trying to use that little trick where you change the folder/file name to a GUID, forget it. It's easily defeatable.

What variable name?? The only one there returns the path to the users local Temp folder.
This just creates an old DOS .COM file that gets executed. The SBS2 utiluty just does a search and replace of a string in another file. It offers no password functionality what-so-ever.

Yep, I knew it. You're using the "GUID Trick" to "lock" folders. I'm sorry to say that this little trick is easily defeatable. As impressive as your batch file is, you're also wasting your time. I'll give you a hint. The folder isn't really "locked" to everything, only to Explorer.

In Windows Explorer (WinXP is my OS), I did a SEARCH for all "*.vcproj, *.sln" files modified in a certain Date range in all folders under a specific directory (C:\LATEST).
Is there a way to get the exact info that is reported in the GUI of the Search Results, saved to a text or CSV file?
If there is a way to do this in DOS, I am happy to try too.
Here is my search critera:
Find *.vcproj, *.sln in C:\LATEST\ (and below) that have been modified between 7/1/2009 - today (8/7/2009)<br />
Thank you very much!

|
|

JPSoft has a cmd replacement[^] that will do that nicely:
dir C:\latest\*.vcproj;*.sln /s /[d7-1-2009]
Add /b to get just the bare filenames.

i have attached a 200G hard drive externally with my system. there has been a power malfunction in our area. when the power came back, one partition of the external hard drive is shown as a partition of the local system hard drive.
the partition that is being shown as the local drive is not accessible.
i checked the disk from the disk manager, it shows the partition as healty, but it doesn't show any file system.
my system has also become very slow.
Helpppp!!!

1. Shut your computer down to prevent any write access to the harddisks.
2. Boot your PC into a recovery system. I usually use Knoppix.
3. Check if parted shows the same problem.
4. If yes: Use recovery tools (like TestDisk and others) to try and recover the original partitioning information on both disks.
4. If no: Reinstall Windows.
Whatever you do, do a full byte-for-byte backup of the drives involved! Use something like DD or ddrescue. That way, you should be able to try different solutions by replaying the backup if one tool fails.
Cheers,
Sebastian
