Ulver - Machine Guns and Peacock Feathers[^]
Ulver recently released a new album and it's awesome!
They started out in the early 90's as a typical 2nd wave of black metal band.
However, subsequent releases featured traditional folk, electronic, ambient and experimental rock music (and little to no black metal).
The new album is heavily influenced by the 80's, especially Depeche Mode.
While their style is pretty eclectic, their quality is consistent.
Machine Guns and Peacocks Feathers is especially poppy and its catchiness made it into Sound of the Week!

Not bad. Since not much new this week, here's two of the all-time greatest synth lines in music:
The Who - Baba O'Riley
Boston - Foreplay
And there was a little new: Captain Hook - Origin (with great visuals for over an hour of trippy greatness!)
Any other contenders for synth awesomeness? Can they knock those two off their throne?

The Captain Hook one is really nice.
Although I never get why these trance albums always have to be 1+ hours 
Personally, I lose interest after about 45 minutes, for any music by the way.
Maybe there are a few really nice albums that are longer that I can listen to, but I couldn't name them right now.
I'm not that much into The Who and Boston, but they're nice.

The topic was memorable synth riffs. And you missed the greater humor in my response. Go listen to the lyrics of the song you recommended (that doesn't have any memorable synth riffs in it).
But nah, I've never really gotten into Ultravox. They are OK, but don't grab my attention.

I once witnessed some sound check guy playing that intro on the keyboard and he got a bigger applause than the main act and probably than any band that played on Wacken that year

For you, maybe. I saw David Lee Roth in concert, and he played this and a bunch of other stuff. Worst concert I've ever been to (not that I am much of a concert-goer). The echoes of echoes had their own echoes because it was so overpowered for the venue. Couldn't make anything out and wasn't enjoyable at all.

I remember that song from back in the day, even though I was only 7 at the time.
Couldn't remember their name though, surprised I haven't seen them more often since, well, corona.
For a moment I though it was a Nakatomi song, but I was off by one word Nakatomi - Children of the Night - YouTube[^] 
The downside to these songs is that once I put them on I can't stop listening

I thought I knew Elastica, but this isn't the psytrance DJ.
YouTube now recommends me Blur, Soundgarden, Alien Ant Farm, Garbage, New Radicals and The Cardigans.

Sometimes I still play games from that time that I used to love.
But then I found out I didn't so much love the game, I loved playing the game and being worry free 
|
