For software engineers, writing becomes becomes the tool to reach, converse with and influence engineers and teams outside their immediate peers. If only there were some place you could practice your writing skills?

True, but - I'm not sure how much of a correlation there is between the quality of the writing for an article and the article's impact in and on the CP community. I've seen articles with poorly-written text but were very popular due to the topic or the code. I've also seen well-written articles here that only heard crickets when it came to ratings.
Orosz makes a good argument, despite the typos and grammatical errors in his post  . It's almost stereotypical for engineers to hold soft skills like writing and public speaking in contempt. I've experienced prejudice from other engineers simply because I write in complete sentences and I'm not tongue-tied when speaking to a group. They only do themselves a disservice, however.
I've asserted myself more times than I can count to engineering management through considered writing and coherent speech - and achieved the result I wanted because of it.

I find it hard to communicate ideas to people because their attention spans are too short, and like you, I write in complete sentences, and without emojis. I also really like using Oxford commas.

Yeah, I'd do Notepad++ in a heartbeat compared to Eclipse. I was meaning vanilla notepad.

I played with Eclipse once, many years ago, and remember extreme frustration before giving up. If I recall correctly, all the cpp files had to be in one directory! I'm sure I had to have overlooked something, but that was a god-awful experience. And Slow! Hopefully they've improved it somewhat in the years since then.

One of the beauties of M$ taking a lot of their projects/code FOSS...
If you don't like the direction that Microsoft is taking a project, you can always just fork it and maintain your own version of the project. You can't do that with proprietary code.
