How to get a complete shutdown from the start menu in Windows 10

Introduction

I have been trying to get a backup program to make the copy at the computer shut down event.

There are some of them that can be scheduled to perform the backup once the computer gets shut down.

I was having problems with all the programs I have been testing, contacting the technical support guys - they used the command "shutdown /s /t 0" and it worked. But not from the start menu...

This mini-tip can help people who have the same or a similar problem and it will help me in the near future, when my memory will fail me again...

How to Ensure the Start Menu Shut Down Works Like That commandline.

In Windows, there is an option to get a faster boot. This is related to the energy settings of the computer and can be found following those steps:

  • Press [Windows + S] and write "power settings".
  • Click "additional power settings".
  • Click "choose what the power button does".
  • Click on "change settings that are currently unavailable".
  • Uncheck "turn on fast startup (recommended)".
  • Save the changes.

Doing that, you'll get all those programs to work as they will recognize the shutdown from the start menu as a complete shutdown and the user of that computer won't have to learn anything new...

As usual, too, there is an obvious downside in terms of somewhat slower startup, though my experience is that there is not as big an effect on this as one might expect.
