I've been developing software for more than 25 years now and find myself finally looking at seriously developing and maintaining an application on Linux. The current application was written in Kylix about 6 years ago (and not by me.)
It's a great application and uses xWindows. But every indication about Kylix is it's not supported and seems like every link to the downloads are obselete. I know that I can probably get my hands on a Kylix IDE but my question is what are the best options going forward?
The application is a Point of Sale system so converting it to a browser application doesn't make too much sense. Additionally, its a great system and only needs a few tweaks here and there.
My plan would be to make the minor changes to keep it going and then look at extending it with newer up to date features using a newer environment / language; while keeping the core going until it made sense to complete the conversion. And that's only if an eventual conversion is necessary.
I would definitely appreciate any comments on this.
