 <h1>Database Connection</h1>

 <p>The first thing you must do when you create a report is to set the database
 connection string.</p>
 <p>You can set the database connection string in the
 <a href="EasiReporter.Dialogs.Connection.htm">Database Connection Dialog</a>.</p>
 <p>The database connection string provides the link from EasiReports to your
 database.</p>
 <p>It tells EasiReports what kind of database you are using, where to find it,
 and other information such as your login name and password.</p>
 <p>The easiest way to set your connection, is with the
 <a href="EasiReporter.Dialogs.DataLink.htm">Data Link Dialog.</a></p>

 <p>
 <b>NOTE:</b> Use the &quot;Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider&quot; provider for Access
 databases.</p>

 <p>You can set the connection string manually if you know the settings.</p>
 <p>This is an example connection string for an <b>Access</b> database :</p>
 <pre class="Code">&nbsp;
Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;
Data Source=C:\Data\Northwind.mdb;
&nbsp;</pre>
 <p>And this is an example for a <b>SQL Server</b> database :</p>
 <pre class="Code">&nbsp;
Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;
Initial Catalog=Northwind;
Data Source=&lt;ServerName&gt;;
Integrated Security=SSPI;
&nbsp;
</pre>

 <p>&nbsp;</p>

I discovered C# and .NET 1.0 Beta 1 in late 2000 and loved them immediately.
I have been writing software professionally in C# ever since

In real life, I have spent 3 years travelling abroad,
I have held a UK Private Pilots Licence for 20 years,
and I am a PADI Divemaster.

I now live near idyllic Bournemouth in England.

I can work 'virtually' anywhere!
