The connection string you are using might be read only. Kindly change the readonly property of the setting to no in order to make the updation in database.Otherwise the link you are using might not have access rights to change in database.

Dear Grahm it's a good solution and I have tried it also using the fingerprint of other server in .ssh folder but for this I think u have to change a setting file parameter "Prompt for password" as no.As I don't have any setting access to server I can't do it from my end.

Not 1 billion but 30 - 40 thousands of records because of which it takes 3-4 min for search but I want the result in 10 - 20 seconds.
The query is quite simple as you might know.
SELECT ED.EMP_CODE
FROM D_EMPLOYEE E, D_EMPLOYEE_DETAIL ED
WHERE E.EMP_ID = ED.EMP_ID
AND E.EMP_NAME = <<name>>
Can u suggest me what to do?

I agree to you but you cannot index a name column by making it primary key.
and here I have to select the employee code by taking only name as input.

It's a http server. yes although the time out in apache application server in the web.xml file is set to 120 mins even after 1 min the application shows cookie not found exception. according to me it should wait for the response. even if I increase the time out in code from 2000 to 900000 the same problem is there. there is no effect of this timeout please explain me where to set the time out and what?

I am using web service to perform some task(that is called from the servlets method) and I have found from the webservice logs that it's not taking more than 1-2 sec to respond. Even if the web service responds in less than 1 sec the jsp page keeps on connecting resulting in this error message. In the logs I found no error message. The logs are stored in the opmn/logs directory.

Actually it is a date field and whenever the field is out of focus I want the date format to be changed from dd/mm/yy to mm/dd/yy because of which i am calling a function in th onblur feild but the problem is that evenif the date format is changed to mm/dd/yy again when the field is out focused the same method is getting called and the date is becoming dd/mm/yyyy and this is continuing I want that once the format is changed to mm/dd/yyyy the field should remain as so despite of on blur method called.

I think you can retrive the cookie by
response.getCookies() which returns the array of Cookie objects from which you can retrive your cookie by the ID value.
If U dont have the ID value you can always get it by setting it to the session attribute or response attribute.

Isn't it showing multiple declaration error because u have declared v1 two times one during declaration and one initialised to some value.Instead what is the problem if u use m(s) as an array of pointers which will store the initial addresses of the other array?

I just want to create a pointer to the structure (Let us say "ptr")
Now if I write ptr(0)=20 it should set the first datamember of the structure to 20 irrespective of whatever it's name might be.
Similarly ptr(1),ptr(2)...etc
