Kindly spend some time reading the link I gave you previously and all surrounding pages (starting here[^]). This will answer all your questions, including some you have not thought of yet.

I would refer 8.2.1 section of ECMA 335[^] for the definition of it.

and also if we look into the 11.2 section of ECMA 334[^] we will see the grammar of it.
