I really need to update the autocorrect feature on this system...
We've had email slowness over the past couple of days that have resulted in emails being delayed. In some cases such as the daily newsletters we had a situation where they didn't complete by the end of the day and so were cancelled and the new day's email started.
The issue was an interesting one: we do a big cache of data which takes a fair bit of time, and has a large timeout associated with it, but the volume grew to a point where it was just a few seconds past the timeout so kept getting into a try/retry spiral. We've (a) increased the timeout, (b) optimised the requests, and (c) are redoing the whole thing so it's chunked better in order to speed it up by a couple of orders of magnitude.
cheers

My sympathies. Timeout to short - retry failure loops really suck. Nothing's worse than something that always just works, right up to the point that it fails for something totally unrelated to whatever you're doing.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Yeah - I love the "it always works until it doesn't" bug.
Our hosting guys are always asking "what did you change??".
Apart from several thousand lines of code, nothing, really.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but the last Insider newsletter I received was on November 15. I had been getting them daily for several years. I miss them, what's up?

For some reason you had a Newsletter Topic filter of "Daily". As there was/is any content tagged with this, you did not get any Newsletters.
I have removed this tag and you should be getting your Newsletters tomorrow.

For instance, a new post on 1:17, under Bugs and Suggestions[^] . Usually there an orange icon next to the category menu
indicates new messages since 15-Nov-18 1:21
I'm using Firefox v63

sorry, didn't see that. by the way, did the missing notification get reported? Usually there is a icon with number next to reputation point indicating total notification. I don't see that anymore.

There are quite a few open issues at the moment. My guess is that Chris and the team are all working hard to clear them up.

I had an answer accepted:
14-Nov-18 5:04AM 25 Authority Answer Accepted Answer 1 Show more applicaiton but the actual posting of the answer 'reputation' record is no where to be found on the list. There may have been some others.
Has this disappeared into the Bob's Private Netherworld or will they be recovered some day. Some of us are still trying to outscore that OG person.
Anyway - when some data's gone missing it may open up adventures into other data having been missed as well.

I looked at the way I worded that and even I misunderstood me. The "answer accepted record" was present (I included it in OP) - but the actual posting of the answer, the 10-pt part, is still not evident. That's what I meant by missing record(s). Normally, where there's one there's many.
I'm enjoying SQL displeasure with postings, myself. It seems some special chars have been getting through and stored (only lately - hmmm) and data request have started to come back empty. As of now, how it's being done is unknown - probably cut&paste from Word or something like that. I've been putting in filters - but it may be another source - which is external data sets that are received and imported daily. So - missing stuff? It ಋ ५ Ӗ ᓉ happens.

Ah, bugger. I was confusing it with QA reports.

This seems to affect several users. For example:
Nomeshh - Professional Profile[^]
Latest Messages[^]
More than 24 hours since he posted his message, and his profile still doesn't show it.
Also, was there supposed to be something between "by" and "at"? Or should "by" be removed, since it's a list of messages by a specific user?

The first issue is a cache issue - that's been fixed and I can either kick the cache or just let it expire it naturally.
The author name on the messages has also been fixed.
Thanks for the reports, Richard.

QA Experts list is showing members who dont' appear to have posted anything on the site (at all!)
E.g. nobita1234[^] currently showing at the top of the last 24 hours list but there are no posts listed on their profile.
Possibly related to Bugs and Suggestions[^] or a bug in the profile display?
|
|
|
|
|
Or possibly related to Bugs and Suggestions[^] - if nobody's getting any points for posting answers, then there are no "top experts" in the last 24 hours, so maybe it's just picking users at random?

When I flit between fora and articles, my rep point total shown at the upper-R corner stays the same. However, when I click on a Q&A answer, the displayed rep points fall by about 200K. Bug or feature?
