I think it's a good idea, as long as na extension link is added to the article.

I believe this could be very useful, also just to add some sub-suggestions for consideration:
- Enable the existing Articles or Tips/Tricks to be added as Article Extensions.
- Allow author of original article to remove the extension.
- Implement it in a way that author needs to confirm that he accepts the suggested Article Extension (but I'm not too sure about this).

I was forced to do it and I think it is really annoying. It definitely doesn't help to create a good image of CodeProject.

What's the big deal about registering? I just don't see your problem!

Who wants to register just to download something? Answer: Nobody.
I understand everyone's point about this being a community, etc, but if I came across an article on this site from google and I had never heard of CP before, it would be annoying to have to register.

There are many good reasons for requiring registration to download the files. You're getting free access to the combined talents of some of the finest (and some of the not-so-finest) minds in the computer industry. Why is it wrong to expect you to register?

I think OP's upset that we all know his last name is a number, and that his first name in slang is rather funny

You aren't "forced" to do it. Nobody was standing behind you with a baseball bat making suggestive noises!
You are asked to do it, because it is a condition of the site: you can browse all of the articles, tips, questions, and forums all you want without registering. But to download files, or ask a question, or contribute to the site it asks for a small amount of information, which it promises not to use for nasty purposes. And the only "real" info it asks for is your email address, so we can talk to you if we need to.
Compare that to Facebook - where your searches are restricted unless you log in.
Or some technical sites where you have to log in to view the damn answers!
Or many shops, where you can't even find out the delivery charge without passing over your credit card details!
I think you are being a little over-sensitive...

Few more reasons here.
I have seen questions like below from people like you in past.
0) Excuse me, I have download source code from this site but I forgot about that game article
1) I found a nice AI article but don't know where's that
Once you registered with any site, you have options like bookmarks, activity history, etc., to track things easily. And this is a techy website so no worries about evil things.
Following are not mandatory but still ....
2) You don't want to appreciate the writers & experts who spends their valuable time here?
3) You don't want to write & post your own article here?

It is not obvious how that may be so. You may wish to explain a bit more.

I understand your point. If I was not familiar with CodeProject I would be annoyed as well.
CodeProject is a community of developers and offers an infinite amount of free advice from very experienced developers. The content is worth a great deal. When you understand it from that point of view then asking someone to register is not hard to understand.

Hello there. Today I could not find an appropriate forum for posting question regarding ffmpeg usage. I think a new forum named OpenSource Products or similar could be added for discussion on open source tools and libraries. Thanks for your thoughts.

I don't see anything offending. Nor do I see an appropriate category for it. Why would one want to delete it ? Though I posted the question in "Quick Answers" as well.

The "ooops" implied you might have reconsidered, not that it was abusive. (Though some do consider posting the same thing in multiple places as abuse, since it duplicates work)
I was just offering to clear up what you implied was a mistake, is all.

Nothing to be to worried about.
It seems the anti-spam filter is being a bit cranky today and is sending everything to the moderation queue.
I'm sure once Chris had a good talking to it, it will all be cleaned up and sort itself out

Yes, just wait. Currently there is an issue with the Moderation Queue already reported below. That is why everything is behaving crazy.
Ignore those. It will be fixed soon.

So one automatically gets negative points for being automatically moderated? That's automatically unfair.

Same here, negative points for every post I make, answers too; not only just the discussion threads of 1 point.
Hopefully, it gets fixed soon.
