Making websites which work on IE6 and also all other browsers always was a pain. Fortunately Microsoft has seen the light and compatibility between IE and other browsers is slowly getting better.
A while ago he asked me what he should have printed on my business cards. I said 'Wizard'.
I read books which nobody else understand. Then I do something which nobody understands. After that the computer does something which nobody understands. When asked, I say things about the results which nobody understand. But everybody expects miracles from me on a regular basis. Looks to me like the classical definition of a wizard.

It's standards compliance that should be (and is) the goal for IE.
Actually, it should be innovation, a great experience, efficient use of resources, keeping out of our way and providing a browser that works on whatever platform, whatever device we choose, that should be the goal.
But for now I'll be happy with standards compliance

And I always went around the browsers and went for web applications with clients connected over webservices whenever I could. In my pet project at home I now went so far to make a client based on XNA. At the moment it happily renders 3D scenes while displaying the first controls of my yet unfinished GUI.

So it surns out we already have this kind of stuff on CP:
Solving The Cryptic Crossword Clues[^]
And thus soon a Latin Primer if you can believe it.
So just what is a programming site doing hosting these kinds of articles? Can anyone explain the logic of this?
Or is it open season and we can now publich anything on CP and thus degrade its usefullness?

The CCC has been moved to the Scrapbook section which holds a bunch of "don't really fit here" things. There was enough interest in the Crosswords that it seemed sensible to post a guide to them.
Articles should be about programming, but articles which help the community work too.

Its the start of the rot Chris. CP will stop being a good site for programming and become a general dumping ground for anyone looking to raise their profile points on CP for whatever odd reason they should want to do so.
I dont suppose you will let the Latin Primer get published, it cant be of much help to the community to learn a languaghe as useless and dead as that.

Why not take a look at http://www.codeproject.com/kb/scrapbook/[^] and look at the dates of the articles in there before you get too hot and bothered.
It's fine. Cryptic crosswords are problem solving games. I can think of worse things than that.

I dont feel that strongly about it Chris, its more a question of the direction you think CP should go in.
I had a look at the scrapbook, and there is a lot of IT stuff in there. And your traveling info is even relevant, since al ot of us do travel as part of our job, so even tenuous, its valid. But if you put Latin in there, its going to stick out like a sore thumb.

I'll ask the editors to be extremely vigilant and ensure CodeProject doesn't suddenly careen off in a crazy new direction.

As much as I like the diversity which makes this site so enticing, I do agree with your statement!
Maybe some thought should be given to creating a new category?

How about an article on GW? I'm sure that would go down well...

50/50!
As always. Which means at least half the people on CP would find it helpful. Perhaps we can talk Chris into accepting one?

Dont you have a duty to represent the interests of CPs members (even if its only 40% of them)?

I think Dave knows that his Latin Primer article didn't go over very well with the community at large. You bringing it up here doesn't help the situation any. Let it be.

As you can see its clearly a quesiotn to Chris about CPs new direction as a general interest site rather than a programming site. (Perhaps we can have Guitar and GW forums too, or French even?)
I am not starting a war with Dave, so dont worry.

Yes please. I could do a series of topics on things such as applying modes, practical sweep picking, super modes, creating chord sequences and so much more.

Thing is, its been done before. and in greater quantity and quality elsewhere on specific guitar forums.
And thats my point.
We arent Latin teachers, or guitarists, or what ever. We are SW engvineers. This is why we are here, and this is what CP represents.
Oh, andx I got the amp working again. In fact even better: The R100 mod, effects loop cable, better valves, its not got a meaty clarity to the crunch instead of trebbly muddiness.

Be my guest!
Actually the guitar forum I also frequent has a general discussion forum too, CP, which has three, is unusual, but interesting.
Personally, I like that aspect of CP; that SW engineers from all round the world can discuss sensitive issues in an open frank way. And the discussions can be very funny too.

I am not going to make it a proper article.
I made a suggestion and some people indicated their interest.
I am posting it for a while, then, once it has been critiqued and moulded to make it as good as I can get it, I will be uplifting and putting it on a web page with a pointer in my sig.
I think that will be the best way forward.

I tried moving an answer by OP to where it belongs, but with no success.
This post: http://www.codeproject.com/Questions/147339/Cell-Text-property-of-grid-is-blank-when-allowsort.aspx#Answer1[^]
It alerts with this message: Oops! There seems to be a server problem, please try posting your comment later.
I tried refreshing, Ctrl+F5, truncating the original (for trimming down the character count) but nothing helps.
To my wonder, I was able to add comment to the question and the other answer but not this particular answer.
Could you please check what's the issue.
The comment to answer 1 is (in case someone could add it):

Hi,
Thanks for your reply,
I am already using placeholder to add the gridview control.
i.e. placeholder.Controls.Add(grd);
Also tried to add div control in place of placeholder to add the gridview; but that didn’t work either.
It would be helpful if you can explain your solution, if you have tried my code.
Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks
