After downloading and extracting files from https://www.codeproject.com/Articles/12375/JavaScript-StringBuilder, I received an audio message about a possible virus attack. Now, I use Norton, and they don't do audio alerts. I looked to see if Norton was running, and for some reason, Windows Defender had been activated and I couldn't launch Norton! Worse, re-downloading Norton failed and the Norton Power Eraser wouldn't download at all. I had to contact Norton tech support, who managed to run an uninstaller and reinstalled everything. After running a full scan, it found the Trojan.Gen.8!cloud virus. Please have someone check the files for that page to see if those are infected. Thanks!

Which zip file did you download?

I downloaded both the source code and the project.

I scanned both with Norton Anti Virus and found no Virus.

The download contains only two files (a HTML page and a JavaScript source). The content can be viewed at CodeProject with the Browse Code option: Downloads: JavaScript StringBuilder[^]. They look harmless.
I have also uploaded stringbuilder_demo.zip at virustotal.com and checked it with Defender. Nothing has been found.
When running a scan the name of infected files is usually shown. So what was the name shown? I would expect it being not a file from this download archive.
Note also that the Trojan.Gen.8!cloud is a generic detection (see Trojan.Gen.8!cloud | Symantec[^]) which may generate false positives.

Thanks for checking. I will go back and see if I can find the specific file. It was a cause-and-effect association on my part, because I got the warning immediately after downloading the two and unzipping them. It could well have been a false positive, but it actually came from Windows Defender and not Norton. That's what panicked me even more: why Windows Defender was running when it should have been Norton, and it got worse when I ran into trouble reinstalling Norton. I spent a good bit of time with Norton tech support to finally get it reinstalled and running as my default virus/security program.

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?
Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you
Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.

I'm not bothering about this -8, I'm only asking me how it is possible/what I'm missing

AFAIK, that only happens when someone abuses the "spam" / "abuse" reporting options on the message. Do you also have a "posted spam or abusive message" event at around the same time?
(Don't ask me why they do it. Some people obviously just can't cope with not being able to anonymously down-vote something they disagree with. )

Thank you very much for the hint, you are right. I must have been blind, just next line is:
-Mar-17 8:37PM 0 Participant Posted spam or abusive message Forum Message Mandatory hint what changed for article/tip/trick which Need "re approvement"
Now I understand at least the -8
Thanks again

Don't worry, I never thought it was you.
And I also don't care about the Points, it was only suspect for me how it is possible to downvote while downvote button is disabled

I can see the contents in this article. It looks fine to me.
Anything unusual on your machine? Or are you pointing out anything specific?

I saw this post[^], read it and was trying to answer - it gave me "posted 2 mins ago".
I couldn't post the answer because "The message is not available", I returned to the Lounge and the message was currently under review as potential spam.
IMHO The message shouldn't be visible when the spam filter traps it, and the spam filter should act before the actual publication.
