Can't picture myself going into an Apple store and complaining it won't run Windows.

I would.

Of all things...the desktop background color?
Somehow I was reminded of an article someone wrote years ago (maybe in the Win8 timeframe?) where the author attempted an experiment testing the in-place upgrade process, starting off with Windows 3.1, customizing the colors (selecting the Hot Dog Stand theme, I believe[*] - of all things...) and trying to upgrade as far as he could just to see where/when his various preferences/customizations would no longer be brought forward.
[*] Seriously, if you're going to google it if you don't remember what it looked like, wear shades. It's horrendous.
I believe his in-place upgrade process went from Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, XP, Vista, 7 and 8.
I forget exactly how it went, but at least some of the colors were still being applied to the Windows 8 tiles.
I'm not sure where I was going with that. Probably just meant to say that in the Windows world, some items are persisted rather consistently, to a ridiculous extent. Others will disappear as soon as you look away from the screen.

I really did my best to stay out of this - especially knowing that both manufacturers have a history of trying to enforce their ownership of your computer(s). Other posts to that effect have been made.
But I can remain silent no longer !
The problem is hidden in plain sight: The device is not designed to retain your "colour" settings but would work properly if you set your "color" settings.

Out of curiosity, does it get fixed if you go to the Task Manager and restart explorer.exe?

Not that I can recall (though I can recall restarting explorer many, many times after it locks up coming out of sleep)

Sounds like you have a much bigger problem than the desktop colour being a bit off then.
Try starting it in a clean boot, that usually fixes quite some odd problems just by doing it.
Have to ask Randor why I suppose, I've never gotten a better answer than that the boot configuration is rewritten at every start, so a clean boot gives it a cleanish sheet so to say.
BTW, have you set "Launch Folder Windows in a separate process"?

You mean reboot my machine each day? That sorta defeats the purpose (I like to be able to just pass out, wake up, get back to where I left off without reloading windows and solutions)

I have not! I'll try that and see.

No, a Clean Boot: How to perform a clean boot in Windows[^]
Basically boot windows without most services and other startup programs, just keep the drivers and most important services, such as networking.
Just don't forget to reset to normal start afterwards.

Actually, just restarting it once in Safe Mode, will do almost the same thing.
Using Clean Boot is just an old habit from an earlier life.

Sounds to me like the background colour is a symptom, not a problem. My guess would be that the USB-C hardware is expecting something from the driver during wake-from-sleep that it isn't doing, and the set background color is failing (among other things). If your keyboard is plugged into a USB-C hub this makes even more sense. The fan going full blast could be a consequence of the video not behaving properly, and they're assuming the additional cooling is necessary.
One other thing to remember is that when video handling on Windows fails in some way, they tend to revert to 'safe' settings. For example, your choice of background colour might not be realizable on the mode it failed to.

I just wanted to say a Thank You to all those who participated in a fairly sensitive debate about vaccines. We each have our thoughts and fears, and we each approach this topic from different backgrounds and with different perspectives.
The conversations definitely became a little tense, but what I saw were people actually trying (in many cases) to listen, to calm things down, and most importantly, to carry on the discussion without getting personal or the whole thing just devolving into pointless name calling.
Thank you. I think I just saw a group argument on the 'net that didn't go south.

Thought I would please mother with a brand new Sumsang Crastyl UHD television, but it turned out to be a quite hair-tearing experience due to a "Not compatible CI+ module".
As the old TV already had a CI+ module from the cable provider, in my naivety I thought that it would work in a newer TV without any problems.
Not
After a lot of browsing I managed to find some abracadabra frequency codez that had to be entered manually, and lo-and-behold it worked!
Still a nag screen on startup though "This CI+ module is not compatible".
The strange thing is that the newest CI+ 1.4 modules don't even exist!
So my advice: never ever buy a CI+ module for your TV!

My daughter sent an iRobot vacuum for my other half, said it was the cat's meow (?). Being the brow beaten medically challenged person I am, I quietly installed it. Now I spend half my you tube time chasing and kicking it to make sure it goes where I want it and NOT getting stuck under the bed or lost in the dining room chairs.
I think it is a plot to make me exercise my hip and keep the dog moving.
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, navigate a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. My understanding is that it needs to map out your place, then it'll figure out how best to deal with obstacles. If you're "kicking it" and moving it yourself, you're really working against it.
My dad has one and thinks it's "too slow", as he's spending 2 hours watching it go, which IMO is counterproductive. The idea is that it shouldn't need anyone's "supervision" and frees you up to do other stuff.
Can't imagine he would have much faith in a self-driving car.
