Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone[^]
Cheap Trick - Mighty Wings[^]
Some people know enough by seeing just those titles.
For those who don't, I've watched Top Gun last week, the movie that rocketed Tom Cruise's career.
The movie is alright, but the soundtrack is some of the best that 80's pop culture has to offer (which isn't a lot, IMHO ).
Especially Danger Zone and Mighty Wings (although the Top Gun Anthem is pretty epic too).
I picked both for this week's SOTW because I really couldn't pick the better one!
Besides, when I play one on YouTube the other is sure to follow so I've listened to them about equally often
Fun fact, I actually know Danger Zone from the Netflix series Archer[^], who regularly says "Danger Zone" and one of the jokes in a later season is that Lana thought Archer had just made it up himself (in an episode where Kenny Loggins plays a guest role as himself)
Also, I get a lot of Eye of the Tiger on YouTube now, often after Mighty Wings.
Someone posted about the YouTube algorithm yesterday, but wouldn't it make more sense to give me more Top Gun songs instead of a Rocky song, or is there some connection between Cheap Trick and Survivor (or those songs) that I'm unaware of?

David O'Neil wrote: Or another 80's classic! Watched that one on Netflix earlier this year and even though the movie is mediocre at best (cool retro graphics though), the soundtrack is pretty awesome!

I generally don't like LOG all that much, but this sounds pretty heavy
Maybe I should check out their newest album...

Yes "Memento Mori" is one of their best albums,
I think next to "Resolution" and "Wrath". I even pre-ordered
"Memento Mori" and d...n sars-covid-19 (whatever its name )
delayed the distribution, but it was worth waiting ...
Lately started also to appreciate Godsmack, Drawning Pool and Disturbed ...
Cheers,

Here's my problem: The last time I updated my VideoLan app, it seemed to change all the file types of files ending in ".mp3" & ".flac" into Type "VLC media file". The problem with this is that I can't do a sort by file type since MP3 & FLAC files are considered as "VLC media file".
How do I change this? Also, I have an app called "Default Program Editor", which worked fine for setting the file icon, but it doesn't seem to work in changing the file type.
Any ideas?

Right-click one file in Explorer and chose 'Open with...', then select another program for the extension, choosing 'always use...", and follow the prompts?
Or use something like 'Everything' which allows you to search by '*.mp3'. You can still use this method in Explorer itself, if I'm not mistaken, without Everything.

Windows Key + search in menu for default apps?

I think your file extensions do not show.
to check and solve this:
- go to a random folder ("my computer" for ex.) and click on the "display" tab.
- on the very right of the topbar click on "options".
- in the new window click on the second tab.
- the sixth checkbox from above should say something like "hide extension for known file types".
- uncheck it, click on apply and ok.
now you see file extensions for all your files again. you can now change it to whatever you want.

I thought I would have a quick answer, but it seems not - I have had this issue, buit currently VLC files on my PC show as distinct types, eg .mp3 are 'MP3 audio file (VLC)', whilst .ogg are (you guessed it) 'OGG video File (VLC)'. It may be simply a case of updating your vn of VLC player (mine is 3.04), because I don't think this separation of types existed previously. The info is stored in the registry under, for example,
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VLC.ogg with a separate key for each extension registered, with corresponding data back up the reg list, eg
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ogg has a default value of 'VLC.ogg'
Its that default value which shows in Explorer, but there has to be a corrseponding entry further down (as my first inset above) which contains the associated executable etc, so you can't just edit the default value to a sring of your choise.

None of the ideas in this thread have worked. However, I have discovered a decent workaround by simply having as a field the file extension. That said, I still would like to give this problem of changing the file type.

We all know how the Youtube (more or less) work by now...
It reinforces your bubble by targeting you with more of what you are already watching!
Now, now, I wonder if it's experience a hick-up or something though...
Because why the hell it's showing me a video titled: "CLEAN WITH ME: The Kitchen!"

the algorithm is affected by kind of self fulfilling prophecies of its own?
one can perform following experiment:
1) clear the cache/history, etc, and do not login into google, so that one start from fresh.
2) do browsing for certain amount of time.
3) then one is trapped into a certain set of contents being suggested and one's world view available is narrowed down ...
4) goto 1 or break
one find that the said set of contents one end up being fed to in each iteration are not quit consistent with the previous ones, which means that the algorithm is not finding the "truth" ... instead it is defining a "reality" for the viewer
