I've got pretty much the same thing with the taskbar. So many pinned or running programs, there's no room to right-click.
|
|
|
|
|
Sounds like a partially self-inflicted problem.
The not-obvious solution: Right click the date/time...
|
|
|
|
|
Excellent. I didn't know the clock would show more than offering to change the date/time.
The task bar is a setting problem...my computer at work, just shows the running program icon, but at home I get a wide buttony thing with the program name. I'm sure there's a setting somewhere...ah...yes...I never thought to actually look before. "Combine taskbar buttons" seems to do it.

I agree, but you can use the same trick I use when a dialog is off screen (after unplugging a monitor eg.)
- in the Windows taskbar hover over the application
- hover over the thumbnail that appears
- right click and select "Move"
- use the arrow keys to move the window
not ideal, but faster than 2 minutes
(but perhaps that was the solution you found )

I'm kind of old-school. I still use [Alt-Space], [M]. You can use mouse or keys from there.

I wonder if you used a browser in the last 10 years.
Nowadays using title bar for more functionality is a standard, and any "big" application uses it.
|
|
|
|
|
You can use any bit of the title bar to drag windows. I just did it, dragging the search bar. Then dragging the document title and status. Which Word version do you use? I'm on the currently newest.

This has nothing to do with Windows.
It has to do with the way Office apps are now developed, adding lots of things on the Title Bar, you can still mode the window, but you need to find a place where there isn't something else over it.
FYI, it's the same on MacOS. I use Office 365 Windows 365 on both platforms, same thing.

The same can be said for all of the creators of "new languages and frameworks".

Solution to the problem, not the rant.
Learn the WINDOWS + ARROWS key shortcuts to move windows around the screen and between monitors. Keeps your hands on the keyboard for faster workflow.

I think this is true for a vast majority of the modern UI world, regardless of the application or OS. There's no place to tap/click/touch without invoking a control. Drives me absolutely crazy.

After taking the backward leap to the "Modern" interface, we are now moving into the "Cubism" period. Just keep watching. We should be seeing "surealism" making its way into UI design soon.

Oh yeah. Chrome and Firefox's title bar area are narrowed too, because they are filled with tabs. And if you have opened enough tab, you have no place to drag and drop the window anymore. They sacrificed functionality just so we can see a little bit more of opened website.

I don't mean to be insensitive but that was almost Darwinian.
The astonishing thing is that a bunch of pre teen boys in a backwater town in a third world country even know the marvel franchise.

You seem to under-estimate the penetration of US cultural products around the world. Nearly 25 years ago, I saw a Coca-Cola billboard in the middle of nowhere on the Tibetan plateau (somewhere between Lhasa and the Nepali border). I'm not surprised these teenagers know about marvel franchise.

Yah I should not be surprised, while travelling down the Mekong we visited a Cambodian village which had only 1 TV in a dirt floored hall where everyone sat on the ground watching a Thai games show it was bizarre.

I've seen a documentary once where they went to some backwater village in Africa and installed the first computer in the village.
Without any explanation the village kids would start internet and browse to Google.
They had never even seen a computer before yet they knew exactly where to go
The reach these companies have is kind of scary...

Same in Samusir (Toba Lake, Sumatra, Indoesia). We visited a town of the Batak tribe[^] they had a common house with a generator to give power to a huge TV (it might have been a projector, not 100% sure anymore) and a Satellite receiver with an antenna of 4 or 5 meters diameter.
Was a bit moment to see the contrast.

The application of the word bollocks for non-brits.
The (dogs) bollocks - absolutely brilliant.
Bollocks - absolute crap.
Utter bollocks - lies
Bollocking - a stern telling off.
Stark bollocks - I am not wearing any clothes.
Bollocks to it - I shall ignore this.
