explorer, deliberate typo. What a piece of work. Microsoft trumpets a Windows 10 update with something round, and they cannot spend a little time on Windows Explorer, the red headed step child (apologies to gingers everywhere). I do a search, I get all of the results... I want to sort by date - and it searches again?

I use the beta version, as it has a lot of fixes.

Thanks, I'll take a look. I know there are alternatives, but for something *so* critical for all users I would have thought by now some intelligence could be added.

Pretty smart, actually.
Makes the code simpler and they can get away with it because...well just because they are Microsoft.
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.

My point is that something so necessary receives zero love.... it's a good thing I have an SSD. In the days of spinners, it was far more painful.

I like Agent Ransack – Mythicsoft[^].
I've been using this for quite some time now, way better/faster than the search in explorer.

Second this...one of the must haves for any new system. I gave up on windows explorer search when I switched to 7, so over 10 years ago.

Windows exploder. What a gem, that makes my day.
And I can't but again recommend total commander, it is been now two decades that I haven't used microsoft exploder willingly.

Have a look at Search Everything[^]
I doubt you can find faster search for windows.
Also works from within Total commander

From within TC : with a plug-in ?
This looks good.

When searching from within TC you need to check the 'Everything' checkbox.
Oh, it needs to be installed as well.

I never tried and ticked the box - "Of course I want you to search everything, what a stupid setting".
Thanks Jörgen, good hint !

I know the feeling, I also had it when I saw the setting the first time.
But it really didn't make sense, Christian Ghisler isn't that kind of stupid. So I checked the help file and found out about 'Everything'

I've always believed the Windows rot set in with Win95 and was marked by the move from File Manager to Windows Explorer . That indicated the end of the user being "in charge" of their own system, actively managing it, and being a lost soul wandering around a maze of folders, trying to explore what MS has done.
