If it is sponsered by someone else, I expect a discount on the hardware. If the ads are there without the discount nor consent, it'd be stealing my processor-time and electricity for a service I did not want; and worse, if it is done like the ads in a webbrowser, it is an attack-vector for hackers. As such, the driver could be classified as malware, both stealing from you and compromising it.
The easy solution is to update your hostsfile. The better solution is to mail the company. For such cases, I always add a CC to "everyone@company.com", which surprisingly often works

They're webbased and in the installer itself, although i would like to send them a nastygram about their bloated driver control app(s)

If you do send them a complaint, be sure to include some ads and a EULA

I've been installing the bare minimum to get drivers to work and avoiding all the extra crapware since said crapware started insisting I need to log in in order to automatically update to new drivers on my behalf, spam me, etc.
It's just drivers. That's all I need. If I have to do a login, you've lost the plot.

One of the most unexpected things I saw him do was host an educational series about English etymology, which he made as entertaining as it was educational.
I've tried multiple times to find it on tape or disc -- and even pirated, as a last resort -- but no dice.

Hmm. I tend to avoid that site (and the company that owns it) as much as possible.
... But, in this case, I'll make an exception! Cheers!
(Of course, had I been able to remember the title of the damned show, I might have found it a bit easier to find -- search on "Away with Words", and it's everywhere!)

So...
When I started w/ GoDaddy, they were cheap & accommodating...w/ great support & lots of free features. Now, I'm paying over $150 annually for deluxe Linux hosting; & they are now charging $140 annually for SSL (which I don't currently have). In February, Google is going to stop showing websites in searches that do not have SSL...so I really need to make a move now.
1) Can anyone offer advice on a good hosting service that offers a lot of space...offers a deluxe (multiple domain) package...has free SSL...& is cheaper (much cheaper, I hope) than GoDaddy?
2) I have 3 domains & host 3 sites w/ GoDaddy...how difficult a task is it to transfer those domains?
thanx,
mf

Had more or less the same problem, switched to one.com this summer. They have free SSL, using LetsEncrypt.
Normally because LetsEncrypt expires every 3rd month, you have to update the SSL keys pretty often. But one.com has a clever script that does it for you, I haven't touched my site Tungware[^] for half a year but its https:// is still going strong

You need to check the databases offered, too. And, many host are owned by one company.

I also have moved (one last item to go) from GoDaddy to NameCheap.
A little getting used to but they really work with you adapting to a new interface (at least for me) - the standard CPanel.
GoDaddy, giants that they are, have gotten greedier and greedier. Low-ball pricing to get you set up and then relying on the reliable laziness of most people to not want to change things when the prices skyrocket.
Only one more domain to move (and no website). Very Good Riddance.

I'm on GoDaddy for $12.95/month. I'm looking to switch to something that offers virtual servers that run Windows. Someone suggested Amazon Lightsail. Any other ideas?
I wrote an ISAPI Extension for IIS that allows for web development with a language that only runs on Windows (PowerBuilder).
