Are you using compression? That slows it down a bit.
Are you backing up the files to a single backup archive file, or are you backing up each file on its own? If you're doing each file on its own, that will take much longer due to the overhead of the file system having to create each file and the drive having to seek all over the place.
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.

AOMEI seems to have various flavors. "Backupper" seems to be some sort of commercial version. I been confused about various versions of backup utilities. Anyone to clarify?

I'd guess that either you have compression set to very high, you are backing up more than you thought, your USB is connecting via USB1, or your destination disks are having problems and you get a lot of retries.
I backup 1.8 TB across two disks, using "Normal" compression, "Intelligent sector" on, and USB 2 (though I've just noticed my drives are USB 3 so I may start plugging them into a different port in future). I generally start them around 18:00, and they turn the computer off some time early in the morning - around 03:00 IIRC - that's about what I'd expect for any backup system. I do close pretty much every app that's running before I start so there aren't too many file changes while the backup is in progress.
Are you going via a hub or plugged directly into a port? Hubs can be iffy sometimes - especially the cheaper ones, and I know how many devices I have plugged in ATM ...

Duh. Never thunk it thru that far

Anything's possible, But these are disks ordered straight from Western Digital and I believe this is the first or second time I've ever used them
OriginalGriff also wrote:

The final size of the destination file was 313 Gig, I believe

No hubs, directly into a port; on the front, yes, I see them now; both are plugged into the front

My little 400 Gig task apparently took 26 hours; and the first 18 or 20 of those hours were totally hands-off (I was deliberately not present)
Thanks for the ideas. Keep them coming.

Finally figured out you are discussing AOMEI in general not a specific product. I checked it out. May consider it.

Like this from the early days of the internet: Dogs in Elk[^] (which is apparently a real story rather than made up.)
Go. Read.

That's hysterical. I own a large greyhound, but fortunately the only 'prey' he's brought into the house was a baby skunk and it was unhurt.
Unfortunately the dog and his sister (probably the instigator of these shenanigans) dropped said baby skunk on an heirloom rug. Cleaning the smell out involved dragging the 8'x12' rug outside, lots of soap and water, and then hanging the now 1000 lb wet rug over the back fence for a month to dry.

I'm just curious.
Also Fallout 4 is a farm game. Prove me wrong.

I own the first three Fallout games, but I haven't even installed them yet.
GoG giveaways - I might get to them one day, but ... so many games, so little time ...

I stopped playing all video games for 1 year.
Needed to detox the brain.
Going on 2 months now, no vid games of any kind.
Best decision I have made in a long time. I highly recommend it.
Been replacing the vid games with watercolor, pen and ink drawings, etc. Reading lots of books that I wish I read a lot sooner. Enjoying the outdoors more.
Just going old school with my hobbies has been so refreshing, really.

I only play for like an hour at time. I used to not play video games at all. It's a small slice of my time pie, and I enjoy it.

Slacker007 wrote: I stopped playing all video games for 1 year.
My dry spell lasted about a dozen years.
I had been playing a game from 2001, until 2007 or so, then one day I just quit cold turkey. I mean all games.
I made exceptions for GTA 4 and 5 when they came out, then quit those as well when I finished the story mode, until I discovered in ~2018 that GTA Online wasn't all that bad (despite all its idiosyncrasies--it's only gotten worse since). I finally quit GTA Online near the start of summer in favor of Red Dead Redemption 2.
These days you could say I'm a gamer once more - but I tend to stick to a single game at a time.
To add a little perspective on this - consider my current gaming rig was okay when GTA5 came out (in 2015, for the PC)...it's more than a little dated right now, but I have zero intent to upgrade it (or replace it outright) until at least GTA6 comes out.

I've play all of them up through Fallout4. I tend to bounce back and forth between Fallout4 and Skyrim. Currently though Red Dead Redemption has been my go to. Haven't fully decided but I'm considering Starfield as the next one. It sounds interesting.

Bought Fallout 3 when it came out.
I was absolutely sure I'd love it.
However, I never played it again after leaving the Vault.
I'd probably love it if I gave it another shot, but I won't because there's so many more games I'd rather play, like Live A Live Remake, Tales of Symphonia Remastered, Atelier Ryza 3, Final Fantasy XVI and the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Been going full JRPG recently (my most recently finished games include Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Arise, Atelier Ryza 1 and 2, and Octopath Traveler II)
Oh, really looking forward to Hades II too!
Not sure what to think of Baldur's Gate III.
I loved BGII back in 2000 (and played it again two or three years ago), but BGIII just isn't BG how I know and love it.
Sure looks awesome though.
I've got to finish Tales of Berseria first though.
Discovered the Tales of series last year and I absolutely love it!
So much to play, so little time...
Only 32 more years to retirement...

Last time I did a run at fallout 4 was this spring.
I'm waiting for Starfield now.
