Thanks. I think the issue I'm seeing is only when I'm on the Google Drive site -- the scrollbars go kinda nuts over there now. They must've changed something in Google Drive.
|
|
|
|
|
1803 (finally) introduced an on/off switch to turn off the automatic hiding of scrollbars; I keep mine always visible, as had been the case since, y'know, scrollbars were introduced in Windows. Maybe that'll help?

Yeah, I found that switch to turn them on always too. I really don't like the idea of them disappearing like that.
I think the issue I was seeing was only in Chrome when in Google Drive and the scrollbars go a bit nuts on that site now.

Chrome Unusable now is always unusable.

For context, my current pet project is a modern implementation of the IRCv3 client protocol. It offers three layers to use depending on what you're looking for: directly to the IRC socket (raw messages), a broadcaster (contextual messages), or a "framework" of sorts that obscures details into easy-to-use interfaces like Server , LocalUser , Channel , etc.
Anyway, I've realized my broadcaster folder is becoming irritating and slow to navigate. Between the "everything in one file"-type and the "one class per file"-type I very much lean towards the latter. However with roughly 200 distinct messages in the base protocol alone (not to mention CTCP, DCC, XDCC, SASL, etc) the one-class-per-file method is becoming ornery at best.
After some thinking, I decided this would be a nice solution that would allow easy navigation since everything related to a message is contained in a single file:
public interface IWelcomeReply : IReply { }
public partial class IrcBroadcaster
{
public event EventHandler<IWelcomeReply> WelcomeEvent;
private partial SetupWelcomeMessage()
{
_commandMap.Add(
MessageCommands.RPL_WELCOME,
msg => WelcomeEvent?.Invoke(this, new Reply(msg))
);
}
}
Before you'd have to sift through a minimum of 3 files among what would be over 600 to check/change something and the IrcBroadcaster class was a monster. This feels easier to navigate but I was wondering what your thoughts were? And if you've run into a similar situation what was your solution?

Providing a simpler yet type safe way of handling messages from internet protocols is why I wrote the code in this article: C# Replacing switch(enum) flow control with Reflection[^]. Don't know if it will suit your goals but it worked for me while experimenting with client/server app development. Certain others didn't see the merit in it but everybody has their opinions.

For my code-base I'd been considering something like this to simplify the mapping code. I liked the article. It's a nice technique for niche situations like this. I'll be running the reflection in the static constructor instead of instance though since the mappings won't change during run-time.

I don't know how we can help you more than telling you to contact Amazon directly.
I'd rather be phishing!

I was intending to buy an orthopedic memory foam mattress from Amazon, but due to Ramadan and I was superbly busy in iftars, meeting with people and prayers, I didn't see its just normal bonded-foam mattress but ordered the mattress, then after a day or two when the status was showing "preparing for dispatch" only I have cancelled this one and ordered another mattress that's orthopedic memory foam and that one is also dispatched.
When I was cancelling I wrote the reason as well that I wanted memory foam mattress that's why I am cancelling. And another thing is I didn't know that they send a message on message Center hence I couldn't respond to it, because Amazon US was allowing me to call the Cust Service and talk to them directly.
And another problem is I was searching a number to call Amazon India from US, but Amazon India for some reason never allowing me to call from US, the only way is Amazon calling us on our number on which my family members are picking, because I am not in India. And they are unable to handle it.
I tried a lot in between cancellation and reaching the item to my home in India to contact Amazon from US, as its difficult for my parents to call and handle that stuff. If Amazon would have allowed me to contact them directly rather than they calling on my parents Phone, I could have told them well in advance to cancel the item.
I have taken google voice with US number to call India, but what Amazon cust service center says is, enter your register number then it will say that I will get a call on that number, I don't understand how can I talk to them, if my call is disconnected in that way.
What I want is,
1. Is there any way that I call them and they listen to me whole instead of they calling on a registered number
or
2. is there anyway that I can have an Indian number that I can put call forwarding on my parents number to my Indian number in US and receive calls here in US over Data, this facility there for US numbers and some of them are even free, work only on Data and Email, we get a US number and we can put call forward on the Original US number to this number and receive calls from US within India without almost any charges except some data charges.
So
Is there anything I can do similar to get an Indian number and I can call or receive calls on that number over the Data itself so that the Amazon call can be forwarded on this new Indian number in US. If anybody can please help me in any of these regards it will be very helpful.
I am like in dire situation that Amazon is playing like this and that the third party business man sent me the item even after I requested for cancellation, the item reached two weeks earlier than its supposed to, it looks like he sent the item so that I can't return the item, really need some help my friends.
Thanks,
Abdul Aleem

Even if it is dispatched I assume that Amazon accepts returns. Check their return policy.

I don't really see what we would be able to do to help. It's a matter between you and Amazon, and my advise would be: be calm and patient, there have been some orders and counter-orders issued, which always cause an highly automated system to choke.

Its not regarding calm, they are not allowing calls from any other number, even if you call they will say enter your register number then they will call on that number, how can it work I am in the US and Amazon India is calling the registered number in India. Very sad I am hurt. I wrote a reply please read it my friend.

I highly doubt that anyone here in the Lounge, of all places, is going to save you from your "dire" situation with Amazon.

Possibly the problem is he is getting (or actually needs to get?) contact with an Indian Call Center?
The irony would make a great story of woe.

You were "cheated badly" by amazon because they are calling you on a number you registered with? This is why one should not rely on internet reviews.
Plus I am not sure if you understand how Amazon works. I have ordered, cancelled, returned hundreds of products and never called them. It all can be done online.

Amazon IT is run by a bunch of idiots.
While I was visiting Germany last year, I ordered a $25 item on Amazon to be delivered to an address in the US using my US debit card.
The idiots thought it must be a fraudulent transaction as the order was initiated in Germany and suspended my account and notified me that I could resolve the situation by faxing them a copy of a check showing my address and an image of my card. On the other hand, I had no trouble ordering my train tickets on Deutsche Bahn from India and from within Germany, though they also checked to make sure it wasn't a fraudulent use of somebody else's card.
For Amazon, I would have had to go to some place likes public internet center to use a fax machine (my friends in the US may not have a fax machine at home - how many have a fax machine at home?) and follow their instructions. I just said 'Screw ing Amazon' and stopped ordering things from them.

What? Why? They are not responsible for your bank account and credit cards or whatever payment mode you use. If your bank does that, it makes sense.
This still does not justify OPs claim that Amazon is "cheating".

Most internet purchases ask you for your billing address and the ship-to address. They don't have a problem if those two are different as you may be ordering a gift for someone.
If I remember correctly, the Amaz(on/ing) cretins asked only for the shipping address, checked with my bank and found my billing address was different, and decided it was a fraudulent transaction, most likely because the transaction originated in Germany for a US card.
If the cretins had asked for a reply by e-mail, which is what they used to contact me, I could have explained the situation, sent them images of my card, my passport and my arse, etc., to satisfy them.
No, I had to fax sh!t over to them. I wasn't going to go to any trouble for the privilege of being able to order sh!t from Amazon.
I do my shopping elsewhere.

Again, I would be screaming why the hell you care about my bank account? That is a problem between me and my bank idiots.

The reason is I couldn't call and explain them for weeks because whenever I call that call gets disconnected and then they call my home Phone in India which usually picked up by my poor parents who do not know nothing about Online Shopping etc.
All they were saying is we don't need this item please return it. I don't know what more should they tell Amazon India. Anyways I don't understand why they don't allow anybody to reach them other than they calling on the registered number is my problem, in a Country like India where public transit is common means of transportation and losing Cells Phones and losing numbers is even very common (because still Vendor mobility isn't common in retaining same Mobile numbers).
And Contact Us page is not on the home page its somewhere I found after searching online, means they tried to kill most of the ways that Customers try to reach them.
Very sad very upsetting.
Thanks,
Abdul Aleem

Do you know you can cancel an order online? If it is already delivered, you can set up return online as well.
And how does any of this sound like cheating to you?

That's what is my whole big message was trying to explain right?, I have cancelled it online, before it was dispatched even, when the status was showing "Preparing For Dispatch". Then still they sent the item then they changed the status to "Dispatched".
That's what I wanted to explain to Amazon, rather than sending Emails and confuse just like I am doing to you, I wanted to call them and explain them, please take your item back from the stage where it is (I mean the item was in transit, I wanted it to be sent back during transit itself), and I couldn't reach them. That's why I am saying its cheating.
And another problem is, the item is supplied by a 3rd party vendor, and I can understand sometimes how bad they (3rd party vendors) follow the rules, when I cancelled the item, the Order was showing Preparing For Dispatch then when I cancelled it, maybe within 3 or 4 hrs its changed to Dispatched. I feel some type of desperation from the 3rd party seller. And after that also I have contacted the Seller couple of times to stop the item wherever it is (within the transit itself) and take it back as we are not interested in taking that item.
These are the reasons I am saying I got bitten by it, maybe its Amazon or 3rd party seller, I am cheated. One more thing, I don't know anything about that 3rd party Vendor, I buy products by looking at Amazon, hence I blame Amazon only because I don't even know who the hell that 3rd party guy.
If you can do anything please help me buddy - any help even a suggestion would help me.
If I can get an Indian number online which runs by using Data just like Google Voice etc and if I can transfer my Indias number calls on to that number (or my US number) then I can speak to Amazon guys directly explain them the situation.
I brought another Memory Foam mattress hence this one is just waste for me my friend, I hope you can understand my situation better now. See how hard it is on Email to explain all this stuff, it took a while, but if I can talk I can explain what happened exactly by voice and that's easier.
That's what I am trying for any help would be greatly helpful my friend.
Thanks,
Abdul Aleem

I don't know why I am freaking teaching you how Amazon works.
They do tell if order is dispatched you can ask for return in cases when they are sent by some third party vendor. You do not understand how system works. As far as they are concerned, you cannot be contacted over phone. If they allow cancelling orders from any phone number, I can cancel anyone's order then.
I am done with this now. Stop being a desperate child.
