I read a very interesting book on the battle of Medway[^] that was written by an English historian.
The most interesting part was when he listed all the things that had to be done badly by the English for the raid to succeed. Apparently the dutch had good spies.

It took some time, but the life and times of admiral Michiel de Ruyter are now on film in the epic movie "Michiel de Ruyter", I also found Charles Dance in the role of Charles II very enjoyable. [IMDB]

It says a lot about the importance of Jews of the time, and how much Europeans owe the Jews. I am not Jewish, but they did provide important services, including map making (which is apparently what Christopher Columbus, or Colom, was).

Actually, he set sail sponsored by that very same lady who brought on the Spanish Inquisition.
Although one could argue she filled a ship with Jews, hoping they'd fall off the end of the earth, that defies the purpose of the inquisition, which was to grab property for the catholic church and royal family. Shipping them out made no financial sense. Church sanctioned murder was much cheaper.
I've heard your claim at other times - but it's doubtful. She'd never give anything to a group she was taught to hate from her childhood, vilified by her church, and otherwise not the type of person the royal family of spaid would do business with.

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them were cats.
His last invention was an evil Lasagna. It didn't kill anyone, and it actually tasted pretty good.

Actually ...
Everybody expected The Spanish Inquisition: they basically sent you an appointment 30 days before they came round to see you.
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...
