Whilst I DO appreciate the Doodles, I cannot help but think that all the money and resources Google spends on this could have been used for something better?!?!?!
Am I too old and negative?

What better product than distracting people, no matter how briefly, from the pointless drudgery of their lives?

Not really - maybe just a tad too serious!

Yes.
Creating and managing a doodle probably costs about $50K (graphic designer) per year which is about zero considering what Google make.
I'd rather be phishing!

Yeah, but I could do a hell of a lot more with the same money! Just fork the m over and I'll show you!

... I really hate it ... lurking behind every corner of a brand new shiny PC. And (not so) recent Lenovo fiasco is just the tip of an iceberg.
Perhaps it's just me, but I really don't get what PC manufacturers expect to achieve with force feeding customers their crap. I always clean install new systems, but still ... it sucks.
It's literally like buying a classy villa only to find out it's already stuffed with the cheapest Ikea furniture glued to the walls and floors with the elephanting Boogie Bass mounted on the front door

But apart from that, I agree completely. I also always clean install the computer after I've bought it, and I hate having to do that. It's unnecessary waste of time, plus you normally ALWAYS get problems because it's close to impossible to locate the correct hardware drivers on the vendors mega-bloated website!

What I don't understand is what motivates these companies to develop the crapware in the first place? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just sell the tech without developing things no one will ever use?
Is there any brand available where you get a pc/laptop ready to use with the selected OS installed but without any sort of crapware?
Same thing with android phones. Love the app Beats on my HTC. Can't live without it... or google+, what would I do without this one?

I think that the crapware is normally developed by third parties hoping to get business that way - Norton is the perfect example when they get trial versions of their antivirus software preinstalled, hoping that people will buy a real license when the trial runs out.
I just don't see what the computer company gains by pissing their users off??? I guess that they get paid well by the thirdparty companies to include their crap...

I believe MS is doing that with Signature Edition (or something) branding ... though sadly not available in my country ... and only applicable to those not thinking of Windows themselves as crapware

It is supposed to deceive regular (non-tech-savvy) users into thinking they are getting a lot of free software with their purchase, thus gaining an advantage over the competition. In other words, typical marketing BS.

True, but people like that shouldn't be allowed to own a computer...

I KNEW it! It's YOU that's developing all the crapware!

Of course - if the revenue they expect would go to the consumer, the whole shebabalua would be pointless!
