Now I have a new hobby. Once in a while I will from now on go back and answer someone's most ancient posts and then watch the discusion here..

This is Javascript. If you put big wheels and a racing stripe on a golf cart, it's still a f***ing golf cart.

Maybe the []E-mail me if someone replies to this message option should be expanded to hold an expiration date. Anyone responding after that date should be sent a message to stop necroing old threads.
That said, while I would love such a functionality on certain sites, I don't see it as a big issue on CP.

What to use as an alternative to Acronis?
I've used them for years but their newest version is garbage. It used to just work and now it's been dumbed down to where it's an buggy, unreliable POS. I had also purchased their Disk Director 12 in a bundle deal and when I uninstalled True Image 2015 it removed system hooks and Disk Director no longer works either. They won't respond to any form of communication, all communication just goes into a black hole.
I've used EaseUS before, but it's been years. Had to use it one time when I couldn't get True Image to clone a disk so I downloaded the EaseUS free version and it worked flawlessly.
Also looking at ShadowProtect by StorageCraft and according to research is the premier but twice the price of EaseUS, is it worth the extra or would EaseUS be good enough for a lone developer with a single desktop system?

Doesn't the old version still work?

No, I installed 2014 which I had upgraded from and it wouldn't work at all!

Not very versatile! I've used it in the past, and bought Acronis instead back when it actually worked.

I only use Acronis to make images of disks. For this I use a free Western Digital version, that you can download from the WD website. The only problem is that the WD version only works if you have at least one WD drive attached to the machine. It has been working great for many years. Last year I tried a trial version of Acronis 2014 but could not get it to work at all. So I dumped it like a hot potato and went back to the old WD version, that still serves me well to this day. I don't know whether the version that WD currently offers on their website, is the same as the old version that I have.

I'm using Macrium Reflect. Had no troubles with that so far but admittedly I'm only using the basic functionality of taking and restoring disk images.

Mike,
You might give one of the following a try:
Commercial: Macrium Reflect : www.macrium.com
Open Source: Clonezilla : clonezilla.org
I have used both of these, but I like Reflect better because I think it is a bit easier to use.

Once you have tried it, it will be nice to see a follow-up post from you, with your findings / conclusions.

Hmm reckon it would be worth while?, I would assume that most have backup planes/software that they are comfortable with.

Speaking for myself: I would like to see it. I may want to dump my version of Acronis due to the Western Digital constraint, but no way am I going to pay for their product that is supposed to work with any make drive!

I have 3 WD drives and downloaded the Acronis WD version and it wouldn't run either. A little window came up and read Attach and WD drive to continue but no drives listed and of course there was a link to buy the full product. Uh let me think about that for a minute...I don't think so!

My version was from 2010. It may be the last version that worked well?

I wish I still had that version. If I went back through backups I my accidentally have a copy but I'm sure the 240 character product key is long gone!

You can get the product key from your account on the Acronis website.

Seems like I tried it a long time ago, last time I was looking for backup software.
