Well that looks fun. A quick search shows people having this issue on Windows 7 as well, though, and it has something to do with file associations; restoring the defaults seems to fix it. (Now can one restore the defaults without wiping out any associations you've added while installing applications? Hope so.)

Did you install a program just before that happened ?
Or possibly open the link with a different program than normal?
The error says the file type association is not there anymore.
Most likely something tried to take over that file type and then messed up so then nothing was associated with it.
Or it got corrupted when power went out or Went to sleep.
With out recording "what" changed it, it would be hard to pin down.
I have seen several odd quirks to Win 8, including the need to do a factory reset to get it going again.

It happens because you use Windows 8 .
I'm still dinosauring away on my Windows 7!

Yesterday I installed 8.1 in a VM, it was literally the first time I've ever used 8/8.1. Half way through the install it says something went wrong with the group policy but carries on anyway. The desktop part of it literally does not work, all the icons glitch out and can't be clicked.

This is a safety measure... Given the fact you are novice this is intended to be there in order to avoid you to press them...

Drives me crazy that people don't control their children and are more interested in their cell phones then their kids.
Get off the phone, pay attention to your kid(s) and if they get out of hand deal with them...we don't wanna hear them screaming.

Yes, seen this appear all over the interwebs.
Has anyone confirmed it though? Until then it's just an /r/thathappened or whatever you call the reddit-equivalent of a 100%-legit greentext.

I know I've a story like this before that Reddit post. Dunno if that means the Reddit one is fake, that this was a repost by the person who did it before, or even that someone else saw the one I did a while ago and decided to act it out in real life.

I wondered if this might be true - so did a google.
I have just finished laughing after finding anotehr urban legend
Quote: (March 2000, Idaho) A teenager who imitated a scene from the hit movie "American Pie" was severely burned when he tried to shag a hot apple pie. Dwight Emburger, 17, was rushed to the hospital with serious burns to his penis. He apparently could not quell his desire until the tasty pastry had cooled, and his reward was a penis badly scarred and scalded by the hot filling. A hospital spokesperson in Boise said, "This demonstrates that producers should consider the effects their films have on the idiot gene pool."

So, I'm sitting here feeling that odd internal whoosh from having a bunch of 120z cups of very strong Cafe Bustello (as mud coffee). Too much too soon. This has happened before, so I recognize the feeling. Upon reflection, however, I realize that this is always a borderline natural state for a programmer.
At this point, I was about to dismiss the whole state, when an epiphany mas grande was bestowed upon me. Unasked, I will nonetheless share:
