I have a great job right now - putting together a recommendation for a new laptop for me. It needs to be able to do 4 hours of REAL work, not this "light use fluff", have high res, enough space for multiple versions of VS, and a VM or two, and be portable.
I have my eyes on the 512Gb SSD version of this:
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/yoga/yoga-2-pro/[^]
Any other recommendations? As I'm the main GUI writer in the small company I work for, I want to have touch and hi-dpi on one of my machines, just to make sure our software will play nicely with them - and I miss my laptop from 5 years ago that had 1900 x 10something...
The price of the Yoga above is making my boss wince a little, but not refuse, so no $3000 swiss made gold plated ones please...

It doesn't look like it has touch, which is a point against - not a deal breaker though. I'll see if it's available here for my list.

It does have touch....
Does the second word in the opening title not give it away, or the whole section on the touch capabilitites....
The touch Ultrabook™ with stunning...
Incredible
Touch
Technology with a human touch
Zenbook UX301 is wonderfully tactile, but that goes well beyond just the feel of its sleek, smooth and durable glass design. Windows 8 is designed with touch in mind and a dedicated ASUS Human Computer Interface team help make it even more intuitive to use with features like a responsive multi-touch display, and a large touch pad with multi-touch support. The backlit keyboard with automatic brightness control also means you'll always have a clear view of the keys, so you can stay productive, even in complete darkness. So whichever way you like to work, Zenbook UX301 has you covered.

That'll teach me to not just immediately press the "specs" button, and scroll down instead.
Defo on the investigate list then.

Is there a place where a programmer can find side programming jobs? I thought that is what sologig.com used to be but it doesnt appear to be that way now.

I actually find a fair amount of work on Craigslist. In each city there are Computer Jobs and Computer Gigs sections.
Jobs is full time & short term stuff, while Gigs seems to be quick work.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is

Thanks for the feedback. I am looking for some extra money and would hate to go get work at some random place for x number of hours a week when I have skills that I can put to use that compliment what I already do day to day.

From the news:
<quote>Dark matter is currently one of the greatest mysteries in the cosmos — an invisible substance thought to make up five-sixths of all matter in the universe. The scientific consensus right now is that dark matter is composed of a new type of particle, one that interacts very weakly at best with all the known forces of the universe, except gravity.
I know where to look. It usually sits on a sofa, can watch reality and casting shows the entire day and can produce a telephone bill near the budget of an African state. It gains mass by devouring enough buiscuits to feed the same country and can only be prevented from completely folding space-time around itself by implying that it ts fat.
