It's out October 17th. If you have Win8, you'll be able to install the final version from the store then.

I have an executable that we have been using in our business for 7 years now. It has been deployed and update by click-once. Worked on XP and 7. Even Vista. Never had a problem ...
...Until we tried to install it on Windows 8. Windows 8 would try to install the program but then kept crashing with a file not found issue.
After a day of googling and asking questions I found out that it was because the executable file name has a period in it. Quickly recompiled to remove the period and Windows 8 was pleased as punch to install and run it.
I'm quite certain Microsoft would call this a "feature".

I saw the same problem but with bat file and a full path. That <insert missing word here> thing couldn't find the file because it had period in it

Just shows how misogynistic Microsoft are, can't handle anything with a period.

Windows 8 is the resurrected version of Microsoft Bob. The only thing missing is the Fisher-Price logo.

Let's say I have Windows 8
Let's say I install Visual Studio
Visual Studio comes with a host of utilities hidden all round the hard drive. When I install a new version I like to peek at the VS Start Menu to get an idea of what useful utility are new / updated / removed.
But.. how do I do that with Windows 8?
I don't remember the location of ILDASM and it doesn't show up while searching on the app screen..
ILDASM should be in the Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\vWhateverTheLatestVersionIs\Bin\NETFX 4.0 Tools folder, with a 64-bit version in the x64 sub-folder.

Just install aftermarket start menu.

I'd mention that idea to Microsoft.

It would be on the "All Apps" screen, grouped under Visual Studio (or something like that).
Go to the Start Screen and type 'V' or 's' (for spy++). However, they number of utilities added is shrinking. If you right click on spy++ and open the containing folder, there isn't much there. (Many of the old utilities are now in the SDK or equivalents can by found in SysInternals. I think Depends is available entirely separately.)
1) Right click the Visual Studio tile (or search for it in apps and right-click the search result),
2) Select Open file location at the bottom of the screen.
You are now browsing the start menu folder.

Did Google get hacked? You do a search and it starts popping new windows.
Note I do not normally use Google.
[EDIT]
We're back. It started working again. I hope the network guy (general computer issues) checks into it further.
I just get the calls early in the morning as they know I am here and will answer the phone.

No problems or pop-ups for me. Win 7 32, IE 10.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

No problem here. Check what "browser helpers" have been installed without your permission.

Not seeing that behaviour here. Sounds like you've got a virus.
